Garbage in-Garbage Out

WHAT? Is GIGO

Garbage In-Garbage Out (GIGO) is a term coined by George Fuechsel, an IBM programmer/teacher in New York. The term can be used in anything situation whereby the quality of the result is only as good as the quality of the input.

· Problem of Type

Problem of type occurs when the incorrect type of input is used. For example, entering alphabets in numerical fields (post code, phone number etc).

· Problem of Quality

Contrast to Problem of Type, Problem of Quality is when the correct input is used but with some fault or deficiencies. For example, searching for ‘car’ in a search engine will results in millions of results.
